No, there's a big difference between "we're not good enough" and "if we
were going to do this we should have started five years ago".

That depends on what "the real thing" is ... one answer that will apply in most cases is because "the real thing" probably has a C/C++ interface
that will not be intuitive to call from Pascal.

A C++ Builder release could probably be built around Qt or wx or GTK+ or some other toolkit without too much effort and without placing too much burden on programmers, but Delphi is a different animal.
